NicheStack Mail - SMTP and POP3 Device Protocols

Email can be an effective tool for the management of networked devices and the integration of devices into business systems. NicheStack SMTP and NicheStack POP3 clients are optimized implementations of standard email protocols specifically engineered for the requirements of device management and networked applications.

SMTP

NicheStack SMTP uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol to transmit Email messages from your embedded device to any standard SMTP server. A device application can use this capability to autonomously send status reports, periodic logs or event alerts to monitoring centers or pagers worldwide.

Using a simple API, NicheStack SMTP supports transmission to multiple addresses, sending multiple messages, incorporating multiple formats and operating on a periodic basis or responding to application events. As with all InterNiche products, the low profile implementation requires very few system resources and is easy to integrate and configure within a networked device.

POP3

The NicheStack POP3 is an economical companion to NicheStack SMTP and enables networked devices to receive Email content from any standard POP3 server. Embedded email contents can be used to trigger system status reports or updates, receive system configuration information or to provide a closed loop feedback system for Email transmissions. The simple API for the NicheStack POP3 toolkit enables autonomous receipt of information from a system administrator or automated distribution server, providing such additional information as number of available mail messages, byte length of each message and overall success or failure. POP3 server logon can be secured through plain text logon or the more sophisticated MD5 digest authentication mechanisms.

InterNiche is the specialist in royalty-free embedded TCP/IP protocols optimized for maximum performance and minimum memory footprint and are provided as source code. NicheStack IPv4 and IPv6 products are engineered for smooth integration and low run-time overhead to address the challenges faced by embedded system development teams in adding networking, security and management to low cost devices.
