Options and Upgrades for Freescale's Coldfire Lite by InterNiche

NicheStack HTTPServer - Compact Web Management Agent

NicheStack HTTPServer is an innovative embedded technology developed specifically for web based device control and management in cost sensitive applications. Previously known as WebPort, HTTPServer is a robust, feature-rich embedded web server that has been designed specifically to optimize size and performance while fully supporting important security features. It is easily integrated into any networked device architecture to dramatically simplify device deployment and convenient local or remote device access.

HTTPServer Highlights:

[**] - Advanced security features requires upgrade from "Lite" stack to one of InterNiche's full stacks

PPP, PPPoE

While many networked devices can rely on Ethernet LANs, serial communication still plays a significant role to play in machine-to-machine applications. The mature Point to Point Protocol (PPP) is also an important backup option even for broadband connected systems. The NicheStack PPP protocol toolkit is a complete, cost effective serial communication package that complements other InterNiche products for those devices that require modem support either as a primary or secondary method of establishing network connectivity.

Key PPP Features:

Technical Support

Licensees of Freescale's Coldfire Lite by InterNiche receive technical support from Freescale engineering. However, customers electing to license NicheLite directly from its authors, will receive:

NicheStack SNMP - Device Management Agents

NicheStack SNMP is an implementation of the most up-to-date set of IETF SNMP protocols in a memory-efficient, highly portable range of InterNiche toolkits is designed for OEMs and System Integrators that require fast, small, proven embedded SNMP support.

SNMP Qualities:

FTP Server

FTP Server - is an ultra compact implementation of a server for the FTP protocol - one of the most reliable and popular methods of file transfer. The use of the FTP server allows a system user to upgrade firmware and copy large data blocks from the embedded system efficiently and easily using standard client tools over the network. The use of FTP requires a native file system or a virtual file system such as InterNiche's Virtual File System, NicheFile™ FTP server is compliant with RFC0959 - File Transfer Protocol.

Telnet Server

A compact implementation of the Telnet server enables an embedded system to provide network accessibility for remote configuration and monitoring through a command line interface (CLI). Telnet server is completely compatible with commercial Telnet Clients (Windows, Mac, UNIX, etc.) and acts as a useful debug access mechanism for target systems. Telnet server includes support for multiple Telnet sessions and supports a generic mechanism for negotiating options, making it very easy to add support for new commands and capabilities.

SMTP

NicheStack SMTP uses the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) to enable Email communication with any standard SMTP server. A device application can use this capability to autonomously send status reports, periodic logs or event alerts to monitoring centers or pagers worldwide. The content of the email transfer can be simple text, or NicheStack SMTP can use attached files to send extended sets of dynamic data from the embedded device.

POP3

The NicheStack POP3 toolkit is an economical companion to the NicheStack SMTP and enables networked devices to receive Email content from any standard POP3 server. Embedded email contents can be used to trigger system status reports or updates, receive system configuration information or to provide a close loop feedback system for Email transmissions. The simple API for the NicheStack POP3 toolkit enables autonomous receipt of information from a system administrator or an automated distribution server, providing such additional information as number of available mail messages, byte length of each message and overall success or failure. POP3 server logon can be secured through plain text logon or the more sophisticated MD5 digest authentication mechanisms.
